4 Marketing Tips for New Businesses

Lean into the full Google suite of marketing tools

First order of business: if paid advertising is not an option for you, make sure you show up via some form of organic search from Day 1. Sign up for Google My Business, especially if you have a service area or physical storefront, so that people searching for your type of product or service can find you. If you’re a digitally native brand, try to invest in PPC (pay-per-click) marketing early for the same reason.

Add Google Analytics and Google Search Console to your website as soon as you can. Google Analytics will provide insights into how visitors interact with your website and how your website content is performing. Google Search Console will tell search engines how to read your website, making it easier for them to rank your website in search results.

Build a social media presence

We all have a love-hate relationship with social media, but a consistent social media presence builds legitimacy for businesses. Consumers often research brands through their social platforms to get an idea of what kind of company you are and whether they can trust you. Plus, social media is a great way to encourage consumers to generate word-of-mouth referrals of your brand via the sharing tools.

Commit to adding consistent website content

SEO, SEO, SEO! Write a 400-word blog post every two weeks or every month will give you fresh content to promote on your social platforms and help drive your SEO rankings on search engines. And again, new visitors on your website will be assessing your brand for credibility and value, so having quality content will help build trust.

Promote your partners and clients

In our experience, success is the result of a team effort. So promote the people you work with! People are (generally) reciprocal creatures. Enabling other people’s success creates a two-way street of benefits; your partners and clients will be more open to advocating for your brand if you advocate for theirs (and do a stellar job of providing your services, of course). Make sure to document any glowing testimonials or reviews of your business to share on your website!
